Tell us your ideas on how to make our community more age-friendly.
How age-friendly is your community?
People across Victoria are living longer and leading healthier lives than any other time in human history with people over the age of 80 now the fastest growing age group in the state. This permanent demographic shift brings with it significant social change: five generations are now living, learning, working and socialising together.
The WHO’s Global Age-Friendly Cities Guide defines an age-friendly city as one that ‘adapts its structures and services to be accessible to and inclusive of older people with varying needs and capacities’. Supporting communities to become age friendly is regarded as one of the most effective strategies to promote the health and wellbeing of older people and the community as a whole.
