Policy positions

We have developed position statements to align with some of our key policy priorities. Each statement outlines:

  • A particular issue affecting the rights, needs and interests of older Victorians, and
  • the action we expect Government and/or other decision-makers to take to address the issue.

These position statements set the direction of our policy and advocacy work and ensure we have a consistent approach across the organisation. They can also be downloaded and used by members of the public who want to play a part in advocating for change.

Our policy and advocacy work only focuses on state-specific issues, or issues where the Victorian Government has the capacity to influence change. The State Government is responsible for issues such as health, education and transport. Policy and advocacy work that aligns with the role of the Australian Government is generally undertaken by COTA Australia. The Australian Government is responsible for issues such as aged care, social security and immigration.
