There are COTA’s in each state and territory, and together they form COTA Australia, with a National Policy Secretariat in Canberra. Each COTA develops policy positions from their discussions with older people, and supported by evidence from research. Issues that are of national interest are sent to the National Policy Council, which is made up of representatives from the State Policy Councils. This group considers and agrees on the national policy positions.
Some policies only apply to a local or state issue and national agreement is not needed.
The COTA National Policy Compendium holds all our policy positions, covering five arenas of public policy.
Arena 1 – Participation, Inclusion and Contribution of Older People
Arena 2 – Housing, Neighbourhood and Transportation
Arena 3 – Health and Care
Arena 4 – Legal, Financial and Consumer Matters
Arena 5 – Income and Assets
