Concession Cards

There are a number of concession cards available to senior Victorians. Find out which ones you may be eligible for here.

Seniors Cards

COTA Victoria does not run the Seniors Card program. Please visit Seniors Online or call 1300 797 210 to update or replace your card.

For Victorian residents over 60, there are two types of cards available: the Seniors Card and the Seniors Business Card. You need to be a permanent resident of Australia and live in Victoria to be eligible for these cards. Each state and territory has its own senior’s card program. As a Victorian Seniors Card holder, you may be eligible for discounts on public transport when you travel interstate.

Seniors Card

The Seniors Card is for people who are retired or who work less than 35 hours a week in paid employment. It provides discounts at businesses, along with public transport benefits. It also gives a fishing license exemption in Victorian waters.

Seniors Business Card

The Seniors Business Card is for people who work 35 hours or more in paid employment. It provides business discounts but does not provide public transport benefits.

You can apply online for either type of card. Paper applications are only available for regular Seniors Cards, not Seniors Business Cards. To find out more about Seniors Cards and to apply, visit Seniors Online or call them on 1300 797 210.

Pensioner Concession Card

The Pensioner Concession Card gives you cheaper health care, medicines and public transport. Card-holders may be entitled to other concessions too, such as discounts on essential services. See the Victorian Concessions Booklet for more details on these.

To be eligible for the Pensioner Concession Card you need to receive certain payments from the government, such as an Age Pension. You don’t need to apply for a Pensioner Concession Card – if you are eligible, your card will be posted to you. For more detailed eligibility information and benefits, visit the Pensioner Concession Card website or call the Older Australians helpline on 132 300 Monday to Friday, 8 am – 5 pm.

Department of Veterans Affairs Health Card

The Department of Veterans Affairs gives DVA Health Cards to veterans, their war widow(er)s and dependants. They provide access to funding for medical services and/or pharmaceuticals. There are three types of card available: Gold Cards cover all conditions; White Cards cover specific conditions; Orange Cards cover pharmaceuticals only. Visit the DVA or call 1800 555 254 for more information or to apply.

Commonwealth Seniors Health Care Card

A Commonwealth Seniors Health Care Card gives cheaper health care to older Australian residents. Card-holders may be entitled to other concessions too, such as discounts on essential services; see the Victorian Concessions Booklet for more details on these.

To get a Commonwealth Seniors Health Care Card, you need to be of pension age and meet an income test. You can apply online if you have a myGov account. You can also apply by printing and filling out a form, or by visiting a service centre. Visit their website for more information, or call their Older Australians helpline on 132 300 Monday to Friday, 8 am – 5 pm.

Victorian Concessions Booklet

The Victorian Government offers concessions to make essential services more affordable for low-income earners. Essential services include electricity, gas, water and council rates. Concessions are also available for other services such as health, education and public transport.

The Victorian Concessions Booklet provides information about the different concessions available. Different concessions may have different eligibilities, application processes and contact details. Download the Booklet for more information.

Seniors Myki Travel Card

Seniors Myki Travel Cards are for Victorians over 60 who hold a Seniors Card. People who have a Seniors Business Card are not eligible. When you apply for your Seniors Card, you will automatically get a Seniors Myki Travel Card.

The cards give you a 50% discount on public transport in Victoria, along with free travel vouchers each year. You can also get some free travel on weekends and during the Victorian Seniors Festival. To find out more, visit PTV’s website or call PTV on 1800 800 007.

Multi Purpose Taxi Program (MPTP) Card

The Multi Purpose Taxi Program gives you up to 50% off of your taxi fares, up to a $60 limit. It is available to people who:

  • are permanent residents of Australia
  • live in Victoria
  • have a permanent or severe disability that stops you from safely using public transport.

You may also need to show that you are experiencing financial hardship or hold a Centrelink-issued concession card. To apply, you will need to ask your doctor for a medical assessment. Read more about the program online, or call Commercial Passenger Vehicles Victoria on 1800 638 802.
