The 2016 COTA Victoria Seniors’ Conference addresses the issue of older Australians working into their 70s and facing age-discrimination in employment.
- a quarter of a million Australians aged 45 plus were on Newstart in June 2015 an increase of 93,000 since 2008.
- 483 days is the average duration that mature jobseekers spend unemployed compared with 294 days for all jobseekers.
- 33 per cent gave up looking for work because of age-based employment discrimination
