The introduction of Aged Care Reform has resulted in significant changes to how aged care services are delivered, including Home Care Packages. All new and existing packages are known as Consumer Directed Care (CDC) packages, these assist people to live at home as long as possible and give choice to and flexibility in the way care and support is determined. To assist current and potential consumers, their family and advocates understand these changes and to make the most of their home care package, COTA is delivering information sessions to community groups. These sessions aim to increase the skills and knowledge of consumers to maintain control of their own life by making the most of Consumer Directed Care (CDC). Ideally consumers will be active partners in their own health care and tneeds through working with their service provider to achieve their support goals.
COTA information sessions are facilitated by trained Peer Educators (volunteers over 50 years) presenting a range of health and well being topics to seniors groups. Sessions have a practical focus and simple strategies, drawing on experience and inspirational stories, while dealing with topics and issues discussed.
