Victoria has the opportunity to lead the rest of the nation on retirement housing reform. More than 60,000 Victorians live in retirement villages, residential parks, rental villages and Independent Living Units. Residents are calling on Premier Andrews to strengthen the retirement housing regulatory framework and establish a retirement ombudsman to improve dispute resolution. The Fairfax media has also highlighted the issues of unfair fees, complex contracts and the treatment of residents by AVEO. The Government has until September to respond to the Parliamentary Inquiry into Retirement Housing report.
You can let Premier Andrews know that these reforms are needed for older Victorians to have fair, affordable and secure retirement housing by emailing him. We urge all concerned Victorians to visit their local Members of Parliament and ask What they are doing to improve the retirement housing sector for older Victorians?
