COTA Victoria statement on Australian Marriage Law Postal Survey

COTA’s vision is that ageing in Australia is a time of possibility, opportunity and influence. We encourage all older Australians to participate in the Australian Marriage Law Postal Survey being conducted by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).

You can participate if you were enrolled on the Commonwealth Electoral Roll, or made a legitimate application for enrolment, by 24 August 2017 and be eligible to vote in a federal election as at 24 August 2017.

Participation in the survey is voluntary. If you choose not to complete the form, please destroy it.

Each eligible Australian is responsible for completing their own survey form. Please use the instructions you’ll receive in the survey materials to complete your form. The ABS encourages you to seek help from someone you trust if you need help to complete your survey form.

Mailing out of the forms begins on the 12th September and you should receive yours by the 25th September. All votes must be mailed by the 27th October to ensure they are received by the closing date of the 7th November 2017. COTA Victoria encourages all older Victorians to participate in the survey and express their views.

We respect and value the contribution and lived experience of Australians as they age and support each person’s right to make choices and to participate in their community.

We value the great diversity that characterises Australians of all ages and are committed to genuine exchange and engagement with all older people in Australia.

COTA encourages respectful discussion and consideration of the issues being canvassed in the Australian Marriage Law Postal Survey.
