Peer Educator presents at the Victorian Active Ageing Alliance’s Research and Practice Forum

COTA Victoria took part in the Victorian Active Ageing Alliance’s Research and Practice Forum. Participants from local councils, ageing advocacy groups, peak bodies, health & fitness professionals and older community members joined together to share their research and experiences.

Edith Chen, COTA Victoria volunteer, gave an informative presentation to more than 200 attendees. Edith shared her personal journey of health and fitness, which included achieving a Certificate III in Fitness. Edith gave practical tips about planning and delivering exercise to older people, and spoke about her own experiences engaging with older members of the Chinese community in Melbourne.

Participants learned about the challenges of exercising as we age, and Edith suggested practical ways to stay active. Edith’s suggestions included making adaptions to your favourite sport, instead of giving it up, such as using a bigger ball in cricket to make it more visible. Her presentation informed attendees on the many ways they can keep active ageing front of mind in their work and lives.
