I am delighted to be writing this message in our new office, having just moved COTA Victoria to Level 4, 533 Little Lonsdale Street. While we will miss the Block Arcade we are looking forward to our fresh new premises and better conditions for our staff and visitors.
2017 was an exciting year as the COTA’s from each State came together to agree on a common vision, mission, and values.
Our vision is that Ageing in Australia is a time of possibility, opportunity and influence. Our Mission is to advance the rights, interests and futures of Australians as we age. We represent older Australians in all their diversity and have worked over the year with our LGBTI elders, older Victorians from diverse cultural backgrounds, our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community and all older Victorians with their diverse needs, aspirations and contributions to the community. Our outstanding staff and volunteers have worked with older Victorians to tackle important issues ranging from elder abuse, end of life care, retirement housing, post-death red-tape, Consumer Directed Care, assistive technology, transport and energy. We have provided information on a wide range of issues and helped people navigate services and the aged care system. We have promoted wellness and physical activity through Peer Education, the Living Longer Living Stronger program and COTA Cycling. We have listened to your concerns and taken them to Ministers and Government Departments and the many committees and consultations that inform decision makers.
2018 promises to be just as challenging in the lead up to the State election in November. COTA Victoria will continue to provide accurate and timely information and listen to your feedback on what is important to the health, wellbeing and participation of all older people across our communities.
As the holiday period is fast approaching, COTA Victoria would like to take this opportunity to wish you a safe and happy holiday season. We look forward to continue working with you in 2018 to advancing the rights, interests and futures of all older people.
