We are excited to begin 2018 in our new premises in Little Lonsdale Street. We are heading into an election year in Victoria and will be asking politicians of all persuasions to commit to an agenda that recognises both the contribution and needs of older Victorians. We are urging Government to plan ahead for the ageing of our population, and to pay particular attention to regional and rural areas.
We will be travelling around Victoria to hear about the key issues you would like us to focus on in the lead up to the election. Our pre-budget submission was sent to ministers late last year with particular requests, including: increased support for people experiencing elder abuse and Support for mature workers and housing and transport initiatives that will assist older Victorians. We have held follow up meetings with the Minister for Housing, Disability and Martin Foley MP and other key ministers to discuss the submission.
We are fortunate to have a skilled group of peer educators who will be travelling around Victoria to facilitate conversations around end of life issues to keep the community informed about recent changes to legislation.
Seniors Rights Victoria is celebrating its 10th Anniversary this year, and continues to provide information, advice and legal assistance to a growing number of people experiencing elder abuse.
With the assistance of expert volunteers, we will be launching a report on post-death red tape, and working with a range of organisations to simplify the often time consuming and distressing process that people face when a partner dies.
We are keen to hear from you about the issues you would like COTA Victoria to focus on this year. We are always looking for volunteers and design partners to work with us on our projects to ensure we are working towards our vision of ageing in Australia being a time of possibility, opportunity and influence and achieving our mission of advancing the rights, interests and futures of Australians as we age.
