Victorian Election 2018 – an opportunity to get involved

COTA Victoria are seeking volunteers to talk to local MPs and candidates about issues important to Victorians 50+. If you would like to be a COTA Victoria ambassador to help influence the policies that parties take to the Victorian State Election on 24 November 2018, we would like to talk to you!

Across Australia COTA advocates on issues that impact on older people. We engage daily with older people in a many different ways. The 2018 Victorian State election is the electorate’s opportunity to voice their opinions. At COTA Victoria we would like older people to campaign on issues that affect them.

With older people advocating on their own behalf, it is easier to demonstrate to government, and prospective MPs, the grass roots support for programs and services, or changes to policy. Just look how effective Get Up! is.

So, we need you!

We want to work with you to become an advocate for all older people across Victoria. But don’t worry, you will not be on your own. COTA Victoria will support all MP liaisons by providing briefing notes and information about each policy area and electorate. You can choose the issue you want to engage with – you do not have to tackle them all. We are particularly eager to hear from people in marginal electorates or if they are in a ministerial seat (see list below). We are planning an information session on the 11 September for those who would like to take on this role.

If this is something you would like to get involved with please contact Victoria Wells, Community Engagement Officer 9655 2140 or vwells@cotavic.org.au for more information.
