COTA Victoria – WISE Services

COTA Victoria are now offering two helpful free services to older Victorians. These services operate on an appointment only basis from our office in Little Lonsdale Street.

Financial Counselling Service

Many older Victorians may find themselves with money problems. Our financial counsellor, Maddie, is a non-judgmental, qualified professional who can provide information, support and advocacy to people in financial difficulty. This service is free, independent and confidential. Maddie can:

  • explain what you can do if you are having difficulty paying bills, fines or debts

  • assist with applications for Utility Relief Grants

  • advocate on your behalf with creditors including banks, debt collection agencies, utility providers

  • advise you about possible government assistance

  • assist with insurance disputes and consumer issues

  • explain early access to Superannuation entitlements and assist you to access entitlements

  • suggest referrals to other services for further assistance.

Maddie is available every Wednesday and Thursday during business hours.

Form Completion Service

Do you need assistance to complete complex paperwork? Staff from Maurice Blackburn Lawyers will be providing free assistance with a range of forms. These include completing your:

  • Centrelink forms

  • insurance claim forms for homes and motor vehicles

  • public housing application forms

  • power of attorney forms.

The service will operate Thursday mornings on a fortnightly basis and be available by appointment only.

Both services will be reopening for the New Year in mid- January. For further information, please contact COTA Victoria on 9655 2100 or cotavic@cotavic.org.au
