Council on the Ageing (COTA Victoria) is the leading not-for-profit organisation representing the interests and rights of people aged over 50 in Victoria. For nearly 70 years in Victoria, we have led government, corporate and community thinking about the positive aspects of ageing.  COTA Victoria’s strategic and operational focus is on promoting older age as a time of opportunities for personal growth, contribution and self-expression.

Policy development and advocacy on behalf of older people in Victoria and Australia in general is one of COTA’s core strategic priorities.  The Policy and Communications team integrates strategic policy program design, policy development, policy responses (e.g. to government initiatives) and election and budget policy platforms across all COTA programs (including Seniors Rights Victoria), with strategic external communication of those policy positions, and marketing and media strategies.  The policy development process is contingent upon broad engagement with all stakeholders, in particular Victorians 50+. The Policy and Communications team comprises staff focusing on: policy research and development; advocacy and engagement; communications; media; and marketing.

The Manager Policy and Communications leads and manages the Policy and Communications team.  The Manager develops the strategic policy work program under broad direction from the CEO, Management Team and COTA Board, and ensures delivery of timely and high quality policy outputs.  The Manager also develops and ensures delivery of integrated communications, marketing and media strategies to best position COTA to achieve its policy objectives.
