OM:NI men’s discussion groups were first established in NSW In the late 1990s. They were set up in recognition of the unique issues faced by many men as they near, or enter, retirement.
The first OM:NI men’s discussion group in Victoria was established in 2004, under the umbrella of COTA Victoria. Since then, further groups have been established in the state, with participants wellbeing benefiting greatly as a result of their involvement.
The Berwick group was started in 2009 and will soon reach 10 years of service to the City of Casey. The aim was to create a safe male sharing environment, where men can meet and discuss matters with confidence and trust. Discussion focuses on issues that may affect members daily lives, and aims to provide support, encouragement and assistance to members coping with various stages of lifestyle changes. The meetings have no set agenda, take no minutes and maintain a privacy agreement between participants.
We welcome other like-minded seniors, over the age of 50, who may benefit from the stimulation of group participation. The concept of the meetings is to share and respect the ideas and opinions of others, while drawing upon each others experience and knowledge.
