What Transport Systems Do We Want in Our Old Age?

As part of our community engagement strategy, COTA Victoria conducted 22 Listening Posts in rural and regional areas around Victoria. Not surprisingly, transport emerged as a priority issue.

  • Going from A to B for medical appointments, visits to family, or just getting around town is a real problem.
  • Visiting a specialist in Melbourne when you live in rural Victoria often means an overnight stay.
  • The weekly grocery shopping takes on extra challenges when you don’t drive and rely on public or community transport.

Visiting a friend who lives on the other side of town is just as important as getting the weekly shop or seeing the doctor. Without regular, accessible and affordable transport, social lives can become very limited.
