Are you or your family member needing some assistance to remain living independently at home?
Are you confused about where to start?
Are you receiving services already but would like to change your home care provider?
Would you like to speak to someone independent who is a good listener and has personal experience of finding their way around the aged care system?
If you’d like to know more about how to find the right home care services for you, COTA Victoria’s trained and understanding volunteer guides, all with personal experience navigating the aged care system, will assist you with any queries. An initial 15 minute phone consultation will be provided free of charge, with additional fee for service options available if required. Additional services include phone support for extended time periods, face to face consultations, Centrelink paperwork support, assistance with navigating websites such as Aged Care Guide and My Aged Care and advocacy for referrals, assessments and agreement negotiations.
Additional assistance can be provided for a fee. You can discuss with your guide the type of assistance package that will suit your needs.

What are my options for support as I age?
Aged Care options
My Aged Care is a national online and phone service to help you find out about aged care services, and what services may be available to help you.
There are different types of aged care services to support you, whatever your needs. When you call the My Aged Care contact centre, the staff will ask questions to help understand your needs. They can help you find out if you are eligible for aged care services.

My Aged Care will provide information about Home Care Packages, Home Support and Residential Aged Care services that are subsidised by the Government (but also generally require a user contribution).
There are also other options you may wish to consider:

- Private options – search on line for home care or aged care services.
- Low cost housing – search the COTA Victoria accommodation directory
Fees and charges
There will be costs associated with most aged care services and the calculation of fees and charges is quite a complex matter. There is information about fees for the various services on My Aged Care and a place where you can estimate your fees. It is recommended that you seek financial advice before making a choice. Choosing Residential Care
The Aged Care Quality Agency checks the quality of residential aged care services and you can access the accreditation reports at www.aacqa.gov.au/publications/reports
There are comparator sites available but use these with caution as they may be funded by the providers and may also not list all of the options in your area.
