What will Victoria look like in 2031, 2041 or 2061? We need a vision now so we can deliver the best quality of life for our ageing population and our future selves.
Across Australia the 5.5 million Baby Boomers born between 1946 and 1965 are entering their 60s and 70s. In Victoria, currently 1.25 million people are aged over 60 years accounting for more than 20 per cent of the population. In just 13 years – by 2031 – almost one in four Victorians will be aged over 60 years. In rural and regional Victoria, almost one in three Victorians will be over the age of 60. Older people are an invaluable part of the Victorian population, and COTA views ageing as a time of opportunities for personal growth, contribution and self- expression
This first year of a four-year term is an important opportunity for the Victorian Government to fund and implement election promises. This pre-budget submission focuses on areas where there is strong alignment between COTA Victoria priorities and Government commitments.
