At the time of writing, we are preparing for our very first virtual AGM. This has certainly been a year of doing things differently. Also, for the first time in a long while, we have 4 candidates nominated for the COTA Victoria Board. I wish all candidates well and judging by the large number of envelopes addressed to the returning officer, the members are keen to have their say. This shows the strength we have in our members and how keen they are to ensure we continue to build a better COTA Victoria.
In the last month during heavy restrictions, we managed to pack up our old office and move out of Little Lonsdale St. Our new office isn’t quite ready yet but as we are all still working from home it hasn’t really bothered us. The COTA Victoria team has once again pulled together another very exciting newsletter for you to enjoy.
As Victorians start to take tentative steps towards going back out again into the community, you might have noticed the emergence of QR codes. I used one for the first time last week. I don’t consider myself tech-illiterate, but it nearly beat me! I had to suck up my pride and ask for assistance. To my amusement, the younger man I asked (who also happened to work at the restaurant I was trying to gain access to) had no idea either. He eventually went in search of someone who had far more experience in these sorts of things to help me scan in. We both learned a new skill that day and it was a good reminder for me not to make assumptions based on someone’s age. I assumed that because he was several years younger than I was he should naturally know about technology. Read more about our fight against ageism and why respecting others should be at the core of our intergenerational interactions. Our Older Men: New Ideas (OM:NI) men’s discussion groups play a very important role in ensuring older men feel valued and supported. They will start to return to group sessions over the next few months.
You may want to grab a cup of tea before you read any further so you can enjoy all the team at COTA Victoria have for you.
We continue to remind our community that it is safe for you to attend your medical appointments and it is important that you do so.
Keep safe.
