May 16 to 24 is National Volunteer Week, and the theme for this year is Better Together. Volunteering brings people together. It builds communities and creates a better society for everyone.
This theme perfectly encapsulates the spirit of COTA Victoria. Here, volunteers and staff work seamlessly together across all areas of our work. Bringing together myriad skills, experiences and ideas, they work hard to enrich communities, promote positive ageing and protect the rights of older Victorians.
Writing on the value of volunteering to civil society, President and CEO of Independent Sector, Dan Cardinali, says ‘When you volunteer, you’re not waiting for someone else to improve life in your community – you’re taking matters into your own hands. We see the promise of our country through the contributions of individuals coming together to solve problems, help others, and advance the common good.’
This is the kind of passion and continuous dedication our volunteers bring to their work at COTA Victoria, and the immeasurable value they bring to our community.
National Volunteering Week is a very important event at COTA Victoria. This is our chance to celebrate our volunteers and give our thanks and appreciation for the contributions that they make – not only to COTA Victoria and to those who directly benefit from our work – but for the recognised benefit to our community as a whole.
