This month, one of COTA Victoria’s programs, Older Men: New Ideas (OM:NI) men’s discussion groups, will celebrate its 10th anniversary at its very popular Eltham group.
OM:NI Eltham is one of the state’s 29 Older Men: New Ideas (OM:NI) men’s discussion groups that aims to empower older men to take control of their lives after retirement and to enhance their health, wellbeing, and lifestyle in retirement.
OM:NI Eltham has been an invaluable hub for older men to make friends and feel a sense of belonging as well as a place where men can listen to each other, and sharing joys, challenges, hopes and achievements.
According to Daryl Morrow, OM:NI Eltham, celebrating the tenth anniversary of the local group is a good opportunity to reflect on the value and growth of the group.
‘At OM:NI, we pride ourselves in creating a comforting and safe space for participants to speak their minds in a non-judgmental and confidential environment. We want our participants to walk away feeling positive and value the time spent with their new-found friends. While it is simple in principle, we really strive for grassroots friendships and connections.’
‘Over the last decade, OM:NI Eltham has seen dozens of men walk through our doors, all with a story (or two) to tell. Every get-together is different and that is what makes the experience unique and worthwhile.’ Darryl added.
Tina Hogarth-Clarke, CEO COTA Victoria said that OM:NI is one of COTA Victoria’s important programs which nurtures empathy-driven conversations.
‘Getting a group of older men together over a cuppa can be a catalyst to something so much more than a chat. It is a time to share and console, as well as a time to celebrate and commemorate. We congratulate OM:NI Eltham on reaching a significant milestone.’
