The Royal Australia and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (eye doctors) has branded this month ‘Juleye’ as a way of reminding people to take care of their eyes.
Almost a third of eye injuries happen at home, often during DIY activities, car repairs or gardening. Some common injuries are:
- Chemical burns – typically from garden sprays, cleaning or car batteries
- Penetrating eye injuries and small particles and irritants – often caused by using a lawnmower, power trimmer or edger in the garden or using hand tools during DIY projects.
The good news is that with suitable eye protection, most of these injuries can be prevented. Learn more on the RANZCO website.
