The 2023-24 state budget was handed down by the Treasurer, Tim Pallas on 23 May 2023. In our 2023-24 pre-budget submission, we asked the Victorian Government to increase investment in a range of programs to help Victorians age well. Our specific asks were purposely limited and framed around the following four broad areas:

The ever-present feeling of uncertainty and apprehension relating to the looming eleventh hour confirmation (or otherwise) of the renewal of critical, lapsed program, core funding is almost upon us. The Victorian State Budget gets released on 23 May.

COTA Victoria has been the peak body representing the interests and rights of older Victorians for more than 70 years; we value ageing, embracing its inherent opportunities for personal growth, contribution, and self-expression. Seniors Rights Victoria (SRV), an integral program and service of COTA Victoria, is the key state-wide service dedicated to advancing the rights of older people and the early intervention into, or prevention of, elder abuse in our community.

In last month’s message, I provided an overview of the extensive work we have undertaken within COTA Victoria over the past 8 months to significantly re-think our strategic direction. This introspective look at our 71-year history, programs, services and the outstanding work performed by our state-wide community legal centre, Seniors Rights Victoria, culminated in an entire new strategy, new goals, priorities and actions for implementation across our organisation over the next 12 months and beyond.
