Supporting older people to tell their story on aged care

COTA Victoria’s information sessions are demystifying the process of making a submission to the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety. We are collaborating with other organisations to organise sessions that meet the needs of different groups – for older people, carers, family members, seniors groups and community organisations – and to empower older people or those helping them to tell their story and be heard.

So far, sessions have been co-hosted with the City of Darebin, the Disability Advocacy Resource Unit and the Southern Migrant Refugee and Migrant Centre. We also hosted an initial information session and submission writing workshop in the CBD.

Attendees have had very positive feedback, saying that after the sessions, they felt more informed and confident about making a submission or helping someone else to. Although participants are quite confused and disillusioned by the aged care system, they also highlighted solutions and spoke about what they want to see as the future of aged care in Australia.
