While our national body, COTA Australia, has applauded important cost of living measures that will help to ease pressures on older Australians, COTA Victoria and Seniors Rights Victoria welcome an investment into systems that will support older people in hospitals.
This includes $155.8m from 2024–25, over 4 years, for Victoria to invest in state initiatives that address long stay older patient challenges, including through avoided hospital admission and earlier discharge from hospital.
“While the investment is appreciated, it also reinforces the need for the Victorian Government to work with COTA Victoria to properly engage with older people as part of the process,” said Acting CEO, Ben Rogers.
“Only then will we ensure that older people are not going to or staying in hospital unnecessarily, and indeed, are ageing well in place with independence and dignity.”
